Preparations and What to Expect on Photo Shoot Day
I tend to be very punctual. When I arrive I’ll have you show me to the kitchen where I’ll set my gear down. Next I’ll ask you for a tour and then I’ll tell you how long the shoot will take. (Usually around 2 hours)
FYI, I do my best work when I have the house to myself, but if that’s not practical it’s okay! If you will be staying however, please don’t plan to help me by moving things as I go from room to room. I tend to work best by myself, but I can be flexible.
The items below are just suggestions, but they can help the shoot go smoother, quicker and with the best results. These aren’t mandatory but any you can do will be appreciated!
Outside:
- Move vehicles off the driveway & not parked in front of the house if possible.
- Pick up the back & side yards so that they are inviting & especially - free of dog poop.
Inside:
- Make sure all lamps & light fixtures have working light bulbs & matching bulb type if possible.
- Remove pet items - beds, dishes, crates, litter boxes, cat trees, etc. again, only if possible.
Living / den / family rooms:
- Tidy up fireplace hearths & mantels.
- Put away TV remotes.
- Make sure all lamps & lights are working.
Kitchen:
- Clear off the counters as much as you can. (They’ll look bigger.)
- Clean & shine stovetops & sinks.
- Remove rugs and dishtowels.
- Remove magnets, artwork, photos & calendars from the refrigerator.
- Remove bar soaps, dish soaps, sponges, washcloths, etc.
- Tidy up the pantry if there is one.
- Make sure all lights are working.
Dining Room:
- Remove tablecloths (unless table is damaged).
- Center dining table under dining room ceiling light if there is one.
- Make sure all lamps & lights are working.
Master Bedroom:
- Smooth out bedspreads.
- Make sure you can’t see the box springs.
- Clear bedside tables of personal items.
- Make sure all lamps & lights are working.
Bathrooms:
- Remove personal items (toothbrushes, soaps, combs, brushes, makeup, etc.) from the counters.
- Remove rugs, bathrobes & clothes baskets/ hampers.
- Remove shampoos, soaps, razors, etc. from showers & tubs.
- Make sure all lights are working.
- Fresh matching towels are a big plus.
Kids Rooms:
- Make beds.
- Put away clothes.
- Organize or put away toys if possible.
Laundry Areas:
- If possible remove laundry, detergent, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, etc. (We only want to show off your washer & dryer.)
Thanks for all your help in getting the best photos of your home!
Best Regards,
Mike Moshofsky
